How is it possible that another year has gone by? It feels like only yesterday we were celebrating our first Christmas in our new home and now we’ve already been here a year and a half. We continue to update and personalize our home. We finished our family room renovation with new fireplace surround, custom-built mantel and shelves, trim, crown molding, and carpet.
We have also finished painting everything but the bathrooms and are planning to begin a kitchen renovation next year. We continue to take ballroom dance lessons and stay active in our church. This fall, we started leading and hosting a new small group of young couples, where we are the longest-married couple in the group.
Jeff is still enjoying his more permanent position as Cloud Developer at Ford. He looks for as many free hours as possible to pursue an ever growing list of hobbies, especially home improvement and dog training. He built a custom end table for our family room and a workstation for future projects in the basement.
Now that our dog Nova is nearly two years old, Jeff has begun training her for agility competitions in addition to our obedience training. He is active at our local dog training club, has built quite a few pieces of agility equipment, and is currently taking Nova through an online dog training course that focuses on skills that can be applied to future agility work.
Hillary continues to work as a Content Project Editor at Gale Cengage Learning and has enrolled in Wayne State University’s online Master of Library and Information Science program. She finished her second of six semesters (including summers) and will finish her degree in May 2015. Outside of school and work, Hillary started working on a new novel and continues to be active in a women’s Bible study, which she is now leading as well as hosting.
Nova had a busy year too, and is constantly learning new things. She loved her agility classes at the club. Nova is very fast and picked up the obstacles quickly, but she still struggles to follow Jeff’s direction in the ring. We took her to one competition this fall, and we all learned a lot from the competition, but we have decided to continue training for a while before entering any more competitions.
The bulk of our travel this year was to visit our families, but we did manage to get away for a long weekend in Niagara Falls, Ontario in August. We enjoyed seeing the falls, taking jet boat tour of the adjacent rapids, and sampling local wines at nearby Niagara-on-the-Lake.
We’d love to hear how you’ve been and hope you have a wonderful holiday season! Merry Christmas and God bless!
Jeff, Hillary, and Nova
